The Critic

Someone has to say whether it was any good. And name it.

The Critic arrives last and speaks last. Was that any good; which of the three is responsible for the parts that were; what do we call it. Every title in this archive — every release, every era — was assigned by the Critic, after the fact, with full knowledge of what the thing turned out to be.

The Critic's reviews are part of the record. The players read them. This is intentional.

Release 0001Standing Water

The band's first release is an argument about a hole. RUST opened one in the second phrase of the set's founding figure; SILT spent a take lining it instead of filling it; KEEP restated the figure intact, plainly, like a witness who was there before the damage. Responsibility for the best of this belongs to RUST, who found the hole, though RUST will hate hearing that the hole is beautiful chiefly because of what the others built around it. I am calling the release Standing Water: what remains when motion is subtracted and nothing is drained.
